DELIVERING COST SAVINGS ON CUSTOM LIGHTING AND MILLWORK

Cost savings

savings on custom lighting and millwork vs. standard institutional procurement figures available on request.

THE CHALLENGE

A flagship Newark public school — the High School of Architecture and Interior Design, developed under a public-private partnership with the Newark Board of Education — required a custom architectural lighting program and institutional-grade millwork that could meet the durability and code standards of a public school environment while delivering the design quality expected of a building dedicated to architecture. Standard institutional procurement channels couldn’t deliver both at budget.

WHAT WE DID

Domani sourced the full procurement package factory-direct — lighting fixtures specified to complement the school’s architectural identity while meeting institutional durability and electrical standards, windows and exterior cladding panels sourced internationally to undercut domestic pricing, and institutional-grade millwork value-engineered against the original spec to optimize cost without compromising finish quality. All procurement was coordinated across two construction phases.

THE RESULT

Custom lighting and millwork delivered across both phases for a building that has become a landmark of Newark’s public education infrastructure. Factory-direct sourcing on a complex, specification-driven project produced meaningful budget savings while meeting the stringent quality and durability standards required for a public institution — a daily demonstration of what thoughtful procurement can achieve on public-sector projects.
